Transport Team Manager
📍 Location: Yodel Hatfield
🕒 Hours: 09:00 – 17:30 (40hrs per week)
📆 Shift Pattern: 5 out of 7 days per week
💷 Salary: £38,494 Per Annum
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Compliance Team Manager to lead overnight transport operations at our Hatfield site. This is a key operational leadership role, responsible for ensuring all transport activity is delivered safely, legally, and on time in a fast-paced parcel network environment.
You will be the senior transport contact on shift, working closely with the Sort Centre team to maintain service continuity, operational efficiency, and full compliance with transport legislation and Yodel standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor, review, and improve driver performance using operational data and reporting tools.
Track and respond to national and local KPIs, implementing corrective actions where required.
Ensure full legal compliance across all transport operations, protecting the site’s Operating Licence.
Promote and maintain high standards of health and safety across the Hatfield operation.
Proactively manage absence, conduct, performance, and employee relations issues, escalating where appropriate.
Investigate transport-related and on-site incidents, ensuring effective follow-up actions are implemented.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and partner carriers.
Work closely with the Sort Centre management team to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
Contribute to site-wide, regional, and business-wide improvement projects.
Maintain positive and professional relationships with trade union representatives.
Manage yard operations to ensure safe, efficient trailer movements and bay availability.
Adapt quickly to changes in volume, network demand, and peak operational pressures.
Act as deputy for the Shift Manager when required.
Tachograph & Driver Hours Compliance
Oversee full tachograph compliance across the Hatfield operation, including:
o Driver card downloads
o Vehicle unit download
Missing mileage and odometer discrepancies
· Ensure downloads are completed within legislative and company timescales
· Investigate, manage, and close out:
o Driver infringements
o Vehicle infringements
o Missing data events
o Identify trends in infringements and provide root-cause analysis
o Support drivers and managers with infringement understanding, coaching, and corrective actions
o Maintain accurate audit trails for DVSA and internal audits
Working Time Directive (WTD) Management
Monitor and manage compliance with the Working Time Directive, including:
o 48-hour average working week
o Reference period calculations
o Rest and break compliance
Produce and maintain weekly WTD overview reports for the Responsible Transport Manager (RTM)
Actively manage risk where drivers approach or exceed WTD thresholds
Support operational planning teams to prevent future breaches
Driver Licence Checks & Audits
Complete and oversee regular driver licence checks in line with company and legal requirements
Conduct audits to ensure checks are completed accurately, at the correct frequency, and correctly recorded
Manage and escalate non-compliances, including endorsements, restrictions, or expired entitlements
Run Sheet & Operational Documentation Compliance
Audit vehicle and driver run sheets to ensure:
o Accurate time recording
o Correct odometer readings
o Full completion, signatures, and dates
Ensure driver pre-briefs and de-briefs are completed correctly and all mandatory information is captured
Identify trends, repeat errors, and training requirements
Work with operations teams to improve documentation standards and compliance
What We’re Looking For:
Proven experience in transport operations, ideally within a parcel or fast-paced logistics environment
Transport CPC – essential
Strong working knowledge of transport management systems
Up-to-date knowledge of drivers’ hours, tachograph legislation, and Working Time Directive requirements
Previous people management experience
A proactive, organised, and collaborative approach with strong problem-solving skills
Ability to remain calm, decisive, and effective under pressure
