Transport Shift Manager
📍 Location: Hatfield
⏱️ Hours: 40 hours per week
🕒 Shift Pattern: Sunday – Thursday 21:45 – 06:15
💷 Salary: £39,931 Per Annum (+ 20% shift allowance for hours worked between 22:00 - 06:00 equivalent to £47,917)
We're looking for a highly motivated Transport Shift Manager to take ownership of day-to-day transport operations at our Hatfield site – ensuring our client parcels are moved efficiently and safely into sort centres and onto their final destinations.
You'll be responsible for leading a team of transport professionals across the main site and outbase locations, maintaining performance against strict KPIs and service levels, while keeping safety, compliance, and operational efficiency at the core of everything you do.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Leading the execution of planned transport schedules, ensuring delivery against agreed service levels.
- Monitoring site and national KPIs, taking corrective action where necessary.
- Managing transport costs within agreed budgets.
- Ensuring full compliance with Operating Licence obligations and legal standards.
- Upholding high Health & Safety standards across all transport activities.
- Supporting and developing the transport supervisory team – handling complex employee relations when needed.
- Driving team development through coaching, succession planning, and performance management.
- Building and maintaining effective supplier relationships.
- Working closely with the on-site Sort Centre team to ensure seamless operational integration.
- Collaborating on improvements to transport processes and daily operations.
- Contributing to wider business projects and initiatives.
- Maintaining strong internal and external stakeholder relationships – including effective trade union engagement.
- Ensuring Yard Management Systems are used and maintained effectively.
- Leading transport activity changes during peak periods and special events.
- Acting as deputy for the Transport Manager when required.
What You’ll Need to Show Us
- Solid experience in transport operations and management.
- Strong knowledge of transport management systems.
- Up-to-date understanding of drivers' hours and working time regulations.
- CPC Qualification – essential.
- Proven experience in managing and developing people effectively.
