About the role:
As a Days Transport Shift Manager at InPost Distribution, you’ll play a key role in keeping our delivery network moving efficiently and safely every day. You’ll lead and support a team of Supervisors and Briefers/Debriefers, ensuring all transport operations run smoothly, legally, and on time.
In this hands-on role, you’ll manage the day-to-day running of the shift, driving high performance through strong leadership, structured processes, and a commitment to continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with teams across HR, Compliance, Planning, and Sortation to deliver seamless coordination across the operation.

📅 Shift Pattern: 4on 4off
🕒 Hours: 06:00am - 18:00pm
💰 Salary: £36,000 - £42,000 depending on experience
What you’ll be doing:
Lead and manage daily transport operations, ensuring deliveries, collections, and fleet utilisation meet service levels, compliance standards, and customer expectations.
Drive full legal and procedural compliance across all transport activities, including tachograph management, working time directives, O-Licence obligations, and Health & Safety requirements.
The Transport Shift Manager directly manages Transport Supervisors and indirectly oversees Briefers/Debriefers, leading one-to-one meetings, performance reviews, and progression plans to support development and engagement. Ensure operational discipline, professional standards, and team cohesion across the entire shift.
Oversee driver briefing and debriefing, performance management, and development to maintain communication standards and achieve KPIs.
Ensure effective resource planning including shift patterns, agency driver utilisation, and holiday scheduling to meet forecasted operational demand.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training to build a safe, skilled, and engaged workforce.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including personnel files, compliance documentation, and vehicle maintenance schedules.
Work closely with HR, Compliance, Planning, and Sortation teams to ensure seamless operational delivery and people management. Attend planning meetings, align resources to forecasted demand, address compliance, and safety concerns, and maintain open communication across departments. Represent the transport function in cross-departmental discussions, ensuring operational priorities and challenges are clearly communicated and collaboratively resolved.
Lead or support site audits, investigations, and incident reviews, ensuring all actions are documented, completed, and drive continuous improvement.
Champion initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, communication, and customer satisfaction across the transport function.
Deputise for the Operations Transport Manager when required, providing operational leadership and ensuring service continuity.
What we need from you:
Proven experience in transport operations management, ideally within a multi-shift, high-volume environment.
Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience in HR processes such as absence management, investigations, and disciplinary handling.
Excellent knowledge of O-Licence compliance, drivers’ hours, tachograph management, and transport legislation.
Experience managing compliance using Convey, Tachomaster, or similar systems.
Familiarity with operational systems such as ESP and Microlise.
Ability to build strong relationships across departments including HR, Planning, Compliance, and Sortation.
Analytical mindset with experience in performance management and KPI delivery.
Strong communication, planning, and organisational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for reporting and analysis.
Transport CPC qualification is desirable.
