About the role:
As a PM Warehouse Shift Manager at InPost, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that the warehouse operates smoothly, efficiently, and safely at all times. You’ll take ownership of both the people and the processes, making sure that everything and everyone works perfectly. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll lead from the shop floor, inspire your team, and foster a high-energy, positive, and collaborative environment.
You’ll manage the day-to-day operations of the InPost warehouse, taking care of costs, resources, and budgets while setting higher standards and tackling any operational challenges that arise. You’ll also work closely with drivers and support customers collecting parcels, ensuring smooth handovers, clear communication, and prompt resolution of any issues. By driving continuous improvements, you’ll optimise productivity, ensure quality standards are consistently met, and make sure customer deadlines are achieved without compromise.
📍 Location: Unit D15, Larkfield Trading Estate, New Hythe Lane, Maidstone, ME206SW
📅 Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday then Tuesday - Saturday (Alternating)
🕒 Hours: 13:30pm - 22:00pm
💰 Salary: £32,000 depending
What you’ll be doing:
Lead and inspire your team: Motivate and support a diverse team of warehouse staff and drivers, leading by example and encouraging accountability, teamwork, and high performance. Champion a positive and inclusive culture.
Team development and training: Oversee the induction of new employees, provide ongoing coaching, training, and support, and create opportunities for development so your team can work effectively, safely, and confidently.
Operational management: Take ownership of all warehouse processes, including parcel handling, sorting, scanning, labelling, and overall throughput. Drive continuous improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and quality while maintaining the highest standards across all operations.
Driver coordination: Work closely with drivers, ensuring smooth delivery schedules, effective communication, and timely distribution. Leverage your background in driving to support route planning, adherence to deadlines, and operational efficiency.
Workforce planning: Forecast staffing requirements, manage rotas, and coordinate annual leave to ensure the warehouse is always fully resourced and ready to meet operational demands.
Health, safety, and compliance: Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring all team members complete mandatory Health & Safety training and adhere to company policies. Maintain a clean, organised, and secure working environment at all times.
Quality control: Perform regular quality checks to guarantee all parcels and processes meet company standards, and take corrective action where necessary.
Shift management and handovers: Deliver detailed, clear handover reports to incoming Shift Managers to ensure seamless transitions and uninterrupted operational flow.
Problem-solving and performance management: Identify challenges, take decisive action, and implement initiatives to improve team performance, operational efficiency, and overall warehouse standards.
Budget and resource management: Monitor and manage costs and resources effectively, balancing operational efficiency with quality and safety requirements.
Culture and engagement: Nurture relationships, recognise achievements, and keep the team motivated, happy, and engaged.
What we need from you:
Lead and motivate a team: Proven track record in people management, successfully motivating and leading diverse teams to consistently achieve and exceed performance targets. Must have the right to work in the UK.
Drive operational excellence: At least 1 year of hands-on experience in a fast-paced Distribution or Logistics environment, with strong knowledge of parcel handling, sorting, scanning, labelling, and overall throughput. Confident driving and surpassing operational KPIs to deliver measurable improvements.
Manage drivers and customer interactions: Coordinate drivers and support customers collecting parcels, ensuring smooth handovers, clear communication, and excellent service.
Plan, organise, and prioritise: A calm and focused mindset, able to forecast staffing needs, manage rotas, coordinate leave, and prioritise daily tasks effectively while keeping operations running smoothly.
Prioritise safety and quality: Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations and warehouse compliance, maintaining a safe, clean, and organised environment while performing quality checks to uphold standards.
Problem-solve and make decisions: Strong practical problem-solving skills, making common-sense decisions to quickly and effectively resolve operational challenges.
Be digitally confident: Proficient in essential computer software and systems, navigating digital tools critical to warehouse and logistics management with ease.
Communicate clearly and effectively: Exceptional time management and communication skills, capable of providing clear handovers, engaging with your team, and supporting staff while meeting strict deadlines.
Have a background in driving: Ideally, you’ll have experience in driving or managing drivers, giving you insight into route planning, delivery schedules, and operational coordination.
