About the role:
Exciting Leadership Opportunity: Manage and Lead Our Carlisle Depot
We’re seeking an experienced and hands on Depot Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our InPost Distribution and InPost Newstrade services at the Carlisle Depot.
You’ll lead all aspects of distribution, team management, and service delivery, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and outstanding performance across both operations.
📍 Location: Inpost Carlisle, Kings drive, Carlisle, CA6 4RD
📅 Shift Pattern: Any 5 from 7
🕒 Hours: 07:00am - 16:00pm
💰 Salary: £55,000 per annum + Car allowance
What you’ll be doing:
Operational Management
- Oversee daily operations of both InPost Distribution and InPost Newstrade services at the Carlisle Depot, ensuring efficient and timely service delivery.
- Coordinate the distribution of parcels, newspapers, and magazines, maintaining smooth handling, storage, and delivery processes.
- Manage inventory and stock levels for both services to meet customer demand without compromising operational efficiency.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, motivate, and develop a diverse depot team across both services, ensuring high performance, accountability, and collaboration.
- Set clear objectives, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide constructive coaching and feedback.
- Foster a positive, safety-focused culture that promotes teamwork, safety awareness, and operational excellence.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both InPost Distribution and InPost Newstrade customers, ensuring expectations are consistently met or exceeded.
- Proactively address and resolve customer concerns, driving continuous improvement in service delivery.
- Identify opportunities for operational and service enhancements, fostering synergy and efficiency between both service areas.
Financial & Budget Management
- Manage the depot’s operational budget, ensuring adherence to financial targets across both services.
- Monitor KPIs and operational metrics to drive cost-effective and profitable performance.
- Control labour and operational expenses to ensure the depot operates within budgetary constraints.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the depot operates in full compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a safe working environment for all staff.
- Regularly review and implement safety protocols, conduct training, and perform audits to identify and address areas for improvement.
- Ensure all relevant regulatory and legal requirements are met — including driver hours, tachograph regulations, and vehicle maintenance.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and industry standards through regular audits.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality across both services.
- Promote the use of technology and data analytics to drive innovation and operational excellence.
- Provide regular reports on operational performance, financial metrics, and KPIs to senior management, using insights to inform strategic and tactical decisions.
What we need from you:
Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience in a leadership role within logistics, distribution, or supply chain management — ideally in a depot or similar operational environment.
- Demonstrated success in managing multiple services or business units, balancing operational efficiency with exceptional customer service.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management, cost control, and driving profitability.
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification preferred but not essential.
- Solid understanding of regulatory compliance within logistics and distribution, including health & safety, driver regulations, and industry standards.
- Must have the legal right to work in the UK.
